Why volunteer;
- Gain new skills which might improve employment prospects
- Make a transition in your life e.g. break from having children, mental illness etc
- Test the waters before making a career change
- Make new friends - Feel part of a group
- Have the chance to help out a charity that is particularly close to your heart
- Give something back to the local community
- Help those less fortunate
- To have fun!
The Volunteer Centre Wokingham recruits and places volunteers with a wide range of voluntary and community organisations around the district and beyond.
We currently have over 150 local volunteering opportunties on our records. These vary greatly and include;
Advice and counselling, art, befriending, campaigning, caring, catering, computers and technology, driving, finance, fundraising, gardening, languages, legal, marketing, PR and media, music, retail and charity shops, teaching and training, trustee or committee roles, volunteering with children, with people with disabilities, with the elderly and many more.
We offer a free volunteer matching service to all potential volunteers by phone, email or in person at our office in Wokingham town centre.
Simply call us on 0118 977 0749 for more information or to book an appointment to register. Please ask for Helena Badger or Christine Knox. If you wish to register for Supported Volunteering, please call and ask for Vicky Lawford.
We have also started to load local volunteering opportunities on to the national volunteering website www.do-it.org.uk. Just enter your postcode, or look for Volunteer Centre Wokingham, and find out what opportunities are available locally.
